Youth Programming
Canton Leisure Services has your family in mind as we create fun and educational programs in our Youth and Special Interest Classes!
These multi-week classes, as well as the shorter one day seminars offer a wide variety of opportunities for kids to be exposed to activities that will expand their horizons and enrich their lives. Choose from fencing, karate, magic, babysitter training and an ever changing list of others including technology-based programs such as ‘Engineering For Kids’ and the popular, Lego programs of ‘Bricks 4 Kids’.
All our youth programs are run by qualified instructors, whose love of teaching and passion for their subjects shines through, making your child’s experience memorable, impactful and fun!

Adventure Events for Youth
Whether you are a young padawan eager to learn to be a Jedi or super spy, there are fun adventure programs coming to Canton's Summit on the Park this season.
Certification Classes
Babysitter Training
Location: Summit on the Park
Ages: 11-18 years
- Babysitter Training: This one-day class teaches future babysitters the best way to be safe and keep children in their care safe. Additionally you'll learn safety, safe play, basic care, first aid and leadership skills.
Health & Fitness Classes
Fencing
Location: Summit on the Park
- Fencing (Ages 10+): Fridays 7 - 9 pm
Karate
Location: Summit on the Park
Isshinryu Karate is an Okinawa style karate known for its natural stances, rapid punches and kicks. It is easily adapted to any age and body type. For more information visit American Karate Academy of Canton.
- Youth Karate (Ages 5-15 years): Monday and Thursday 6:30 - 7:30 pm
- Adult Karate (Ages 16+ years): Monday and Thursday 7:30 - 8:30 pm
- Karate Weapons (Ages 10+ years): Friday 7 - 8 pm. Using skills learned in Karate, students can learn moves using weapons such as katanas, staff and nunchucks. Prerequisite for Karate Weapons is Karate.
Teen Women Only Self-Defense
Location: Summit on the Park
The course will teach basic techniques that will allow women to avoid conflict situations and offer options in the critical moments in which your personal space has been violated. It aims to prevent assault and build women's self confidence in their ability to stay safe. Course is taught by American Karate Academy of Canton

- Therapeutic Recreation Karate (Ages 15+ years): Fridays 7 - 8 pm. TR Karate is great for gaining self-control, improving muscle tone, speed, flexibility, and sharpening the mind.
Scouting Program Events
Canton Leisure Services is committed to connecting young people to recreation and nature opportunities here in the community. Design-Your-Own-Scout-Program
Let Canton Leisure Services help you with your Girl Scout and Cub Scout requirements and activities. Programs can be personalized to meet your specific needs. Offerings may include programs such as Leave No Trace Behind, Community Service Projects, Girl Scout Journeys and Aquatics Badges, as well as Self-Defense Empowerment Workshops for girls.

Bricks 4 Kidz
- Join Bricks 4 Kidz on an adventurous journey as students have fun learning and using STEM principles to create and explore using the LEGO platform.

Engineering for Kids
- Engineering For Kids® brings the wonder and excitement of STEM education (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) to children ages 4-14 through a variety of hands-on learning experiences. American Doll Programs (Ages 5 - 12 yrs)
- Solve a crime, enjoy a theater show, spend an afternoon at the spa or painting-all with your favorite doll!

Beginner Youth Guitar

Inclement Weather Policy
If the Plymouth/Canton School District closes due to inclement weather during the school year (typically due to winter weather conditions), all Leisure Services Department programs/classes held prior to 4 pm will be canceled. For Leisure Service programs/classes that begin after 4 pm a determination to cancel will be made no later then 2 pm that day.
